Extended Tours are a rich experience that immerse the visitor in not only the world of Lee Miller, Roland Penrose, their family and associates, but also give an insight into the work of the Lee Miller Archives and The Penrose Collection.
These two organisations are run by the family based at Farley Farm House and are constantly involved in bringing the work to the attention of the public in international exhibitions, books and films.
The Extended Tour begins with a 55 minute introductory talk by Antony Penrose, the son of Lee Miller and Roland Penrose who grew up at Farley Farm. Antony guides the tour assisted by his daughter Ami Bouhassane and they talk about the objects and the house in detail, often from firsthand experience. The route follows the ground floor tour but also takes in the stairs and passages of the first floor and Roland Penrose’s study. This room is hung with works commemorating his and Lee Miller’s friendship with a wide range of artists. It is also the place where we show really unusual objects that relate to current prominent events in the life of the collection. For example in the Lee Miller centenary year visitors had a detailed look at her creative process evident in her war photography and her portraiture of Picasso. There is a maximum of 15 visitors on each Extended Tour.
