Show Extended Tours

Groups meet their trained guide in the old kitchen and are taken on an insightful journey around the key rooms of the ground floor of the house which includes the dining room and its famous fireplace mural by Roland Penrose. The ground floor is packed with works of art including many objects of tribal art from all round the world.  The sitting room contains pictures of Lee Miller and Valentine Penrose, (the first wife of Roland Penrose) by many artists and photographers. Also on display are photographs by Lee Miller and items of her equipment such as her typewriter and Rolleiflex camera.

Group Tours 2010

Available April - October on either Tuesdays to begin at 10am or 2.30pm or Thursday mornings at 10am.  Available to parties of a minimum of 12 and maximum of 45 people. 

Tour costs £8.50 per person
Duration of tour

Available for groups of
12 - 45 people.

Each 50 minute tour has a maximum of 15 visitors, and can begin at half hour intervals to accommodate larger groups.  Visitors can explore the sculpture garden and view the exhibition in Farleys Barn Gallery before and after their house tour.

Advance booking is essential and a non refundable deposit will be required to secure your groups chosen date.

 Extended Tours for Groups

Another option available for group bookings is the Extended Tour for Groups. As this tour is guided by Antony Penrose son of Lee Miller and Roland Penrose and his daughter Ami Bouhassane dates are very limited and group sizes are restricted to a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 15 people.

British Art at Home

A full day of exciting and personal insights into the lives, art and homes of the Surrealists at Farley Farm House and the Bloomsbury group at Charleston. Between the two houses a magnificent picture of almost a century of British modern art is conjured up.

Tours available on Thursdays from April to October 2010.

Charleston from 10am to 12.00pm. The visit starts with coffee followed by a one hour guided tour of the house and then time to visit the garden, gallery and shop.

The Cricketers’ Arms from 12.30pm to 2pm.  The package includes a delicious lunch at a traditional Sussex pub.

Farley Farm House from 2.30pm with a guided tour which takes approximately 50 minutes and covers all the key rooms of ground floor.  Visitors may also explore the sculpture garden and shop.

Package Price: £30 per person 2010  (£35 per person in 2011)
Group sizes: min 12 and max 45 people.
